Jakarta – Yusril Ihza Mahendra resigns from his position as Chairman of the Crescent Star Party or PBB. To continue the leadership of the party, Fahri Bachmid was appointed as Acting Chairman until the next leader is elected.

His resignation was announced at the Party Council Deliberation (MDP) meeting held at the PBB DPP office on Jalan Raya Pasar Minggu, Jakarta, which took place from morning until 9:30 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
“In the voting to choose the Acting Chairman, PBB Supreme Court Chairman Fahri Bachmid received 29 votes of support, while Afriansyah Noor, the Secretary General of PBB DPP, received 20 votes of support. Therefore, according to PBB ART, MDP confirms Fahri Bachmid as Acting Chairman of PBB until the election of the definitive PBB Chairman at the next PBB Congress, agreed to be held no later than the end of January 2025,” explained Yusril in his official statement on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Yusril explained that he has been leading the party since PBB was established at the beginning of the Reform era in 1998. Therefore, he mentioned that it is time for a generational change in the party’s leadership.
Nevertheless, Yusril stated that he will remain active in the political world in his capacity as an individual, with a background as an academician and extensive experience in the political realm in the country, without being tied to a political party.

By acting as an individual outside the party, according to Yusril, he will be able to contribute more freely with his energy and thoughts in solving the issues faced by the nation and the state. This is particularly important in building the law and democracy in Indonesia.
Furthermore, the limited changes to the PBB AD/ART and the election of Acting Chairman will be documented in a Notary Deed for immediate approval by the Minister of Law and Human Rights according to the Political Party Law provisions.
“The resignation of Yusril and his replacement by Fahri Bachmid has been carried out democratically, validly, and constitutionally while upholding the spirit of kinship and togetherness,” he explained.
