Ministry of Youth and Sports Launches Sports Scholarship Program: Nation’s Commitment to Future Athletes

The Indonesian Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs (Kemenpora RI) and in partnership with the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), recently introduced the Sports Scholarship Program. The initiative aims to bolster the national sports ecosystem and ensure the long-term well-being of sports professionals. This program provides opportunities for active and retired athletes, as well as sports experts, to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees both domestically and internationally. It reflects the government’s dedication to viewing sports beyond short-term success and as a crucial component of sustainable human capital development. Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, stated that this scholarship signifies the government’s commitment to supporting the welfare and future of the sports community, reinforcing the national sports ecosystem. He highlighted how the program helps retired athletes transition into new careers beyond their competitive days. The Sports Scholarship Program offers two entry tracks: performance enhancement and achievement recognition, allowing sports professionals to contribute to sports science, management, and national policies. Plans are underway to expand the program to undergraduate levels and revive sports schools nationwide, nurturing a generation of excellence through sports-based education. The aim is to instill strong sportsmanship values in the younger generation from an early age to professional attainment. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Prof. Pratikno, commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of sports in character development. Acting President Director of LPDP, Sudarto, highlighted the program’s inclusive and selective nature, providing opportunities for sports professionals to excel and inspire. This scholarship launch reinforces the government’s stance that sports is not merely about athletic accomplishments but also about intellectual and social growth. It signifies the government’s ongoing support for athletes from the start of their careers to their future beyond sports.
