President Joko Widodo, Prabowo Subianto, made a visit to Sentosa Funeral Home at RSPAD Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday to pay his final respects to the late Kwik Kian Gie—a highly regarded economist and respected national statesman. Upon his arrival at the funeral home, President Prabowo was warmly welcomed by the relatives and family of the late Kwik Kian Gie before proceeding to the chamber where the deceased laid in repose. With a sense of solemnity and deep respect, Prabowo honored Kwik Kian Gie, known for his advocacy of Pancasila-based economics during his lifetime. Kwik, an influential economist and political figure, passed away at the age of 90 on Monday evening. President Prabowo expressed his feelings about Kwik, highlighting their close bond beyond formalities, emphasizing Kwik’s continuous support and advice over the years.
Prabowo recognized Kwik as not only an economist but also a friend and mentor, underscoring his invaluable contributions and dedication to upholding Article 33 of the Constitution through the Pancasila economy. Reflecting on the personal connection they shared, Prabowo acknowledged Kwik as an extraordinary figure who provided him with wise counsel regularly. Even in his final days, Kwik remained actively involved, sending messages and recommendations to the President. President Prabowo reminisced on the recent WhatsApp message he received from Kwik, filled with suggestions and thoughtful insights before his passing. In closing, Prabowo expressed his gratitude for Kwik’s profound impact on Indonesia, recognizing him as one of the nation’s finest sons whose wisdom will be dearly missed.
