Preventing Child Addiction: Importance of Physical Activity Spaces

Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development, Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, emphasized the importance of parents staying updated on their children’s interests and engaging in physical activities together to prevent addiction to games and gadgets. Isyana shared this during a discussion organized by the Presidential Communication Office in Jakarta. She highlighted the need for parents to constantly learn and adapt to keep up with their children’s fast-paced learning curve. Isyana pointed out that children often seek dopamine through social media and online games, leading to potential addiction. One solution she mentioned is engaging in sports and outdoor activities to counteract this. Another official, Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan, highlighted the RBI program aimed at creating safe spaces for children to play, learn, and stay away from gadget addiction. Through programs like RBI, children can have access to creative activities, traditional games, and sports, promoting a healthier lifestyle.
