2026 Education Budget Rp 757.8 Trillion: Largest in Indonesian History

Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia, emphasized his administration’s unwavering dedication to the education of the nation’s youth during his State Budget 2026 Financial Note address at the House of Representatives’ plenary session. The proposed 2026 state budget, the largest in Indonesian history, will allocate Rp 757.8 trillion to education. Prabowo highlighted the crucial role of education in producing globally competitive human resources and eradicating poverty. He emphasized the need for effective use of education funds, focusing on improving teacher welfare, strengthening vocational training, and aligning curricula with labor market demands.

The breakdown of the education budget includes funding for programs such as Indonesia Pintar and scholarships for university students through the Kartu Indonesia Pintar initiative. Additionally, a substantial amount will go towards upgrading school and campus facilities. Prabowo also mentioned providing salaries and professional allowances for teachers and lecturers to enhance the quality of education. Strengthening schools like Sekolah Rakyat and Sekolah Unggul Garuda to improve access to quality education for underprivileged children was also highlighted.

The President expressed the importance of promoting Indonesia’s capabilities in STEM fields, emphasizing the need to catch up in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Overall, the government aims to shape a generation that is intelligent, innovative, productive, and globally competitive. Prabowo’s vision for education in 2026 includes expanding scholarship opportunities through the LPDP and enhancing educational infrastructure to foster excellence in learning.
