Tears of Gratitude: A Heartwarming Story from the SPPG Kitchen

In Serdang Bedagai, on July 30, 2025, the atmosphere was filled with emotion as Aslina, a middle-aged woman, couldn’t hold back her tears. She expressed her gratitude for the change in her life since becoming involved in the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Cempedak Lobang, Sei Rampah. Aslina, previously a full-time homemaker with no income, now works alongside others in preparing healthy meals for school children in the community, thanks to the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

During a visit to her workplace by Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communication Office, North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution, and other regional leaders, Aslina shared her story of transformation. Joining her in the program, Normawati, another participant, highlighted the positive impact on her life and family, especially with the additional income and the proximity of the job to her home.

Aside from housewives, the MBG Program has also provided opportunities for young women like Shinta Ramadana, who was previously unemployed. With enthusiasm, Shinta now contributes to food preparation tasks, such as cutting vegetables and sorting ingredients. These women, along with many others, are part of the thousands of individuals employed through the initiative, as reported by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).

More than just providing nutritious meals, the MBG Program aims to empower women and transform kitchens into spaces of hope. As stories like Aslina’s, Norma’s, and Shinta’s demonstrate, this program has brought positive changes to the lives of many individuals and families nationwide.
