Jakarta – Mahfud MD officially resigned from his position as Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security (Menko Polhukam). After submitting his resignation to the Palace, Mahfud delivered a speech on his last day as a minister. He remembered the moment when he was first appointed as Menko Polhukam in October 2019.
Initially, Mahfud admitted that he was underestimated and would soon be reshuffled due to his frank nature in revealing all the secrets of the palace. This prediction was even made by political observer Rocky Gerung. “So when I was first appointed, Mr. Rocky Gerung said ‘Mahfud will not be able to be a minister. At most 8 months, I am sure he will be reshuffled’,” Mahfud said at a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
“Why? Because Mr. Mahfud is too frank, all the palace secrets will be revealed,” he continued.
However, Mahfud proved his worthiness to be the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. “Over 8 months, one year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, Rocky forgot that he said that. But the digital footprint is still there,” he said.
Earlier, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, had directly submitted his resignation letter from the Indonesia Maju Cabinet to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
“I have just been received by Mr. President, Mr. Joko Widodo, accompanied by Mr. Mensesneg, Mr. Professor Pratikno. I delivered the news about the continuation of my duties as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs,” said Mahfud at the Presidential Office.
Mahfud conveyed the essence of the letter he submitted to President Jokowi, namely a request to resign, and the contents of the letter were short, only containing three things.
First, Mahfud expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, who on October 23, 2019, appointed him as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs and handed over the appointment letter with full respect.
“And my respect to him at this time, so I officially and respectfully declare today with a letter,” he said.
Then, Mahfud conveyed the second content of his letter, which is a request to resign. “Third, I apologize to him if there are any problems that I have not carried out well,” he said.
